Historic stories about FAX

Built in September 1964 it took a very long time until FAX found a buyer.

This might be caused by the amazing color combination of Fiesta Yellow Body (BMC color code YL11), the OEW roof and the powder blue interior.

We have been told that FAX was shown around by the dealer who ordered to find a buyer.

In May 1965 (nearly 8 month after the car was built) a buyer was found and FAX was first registered in Newport Monmouthshire (as seen an the FAX registration).

The late registration is also shown on the "C" which stands for 1965.

Because of the rough salty air in the area FAX lived till 1980 (with only one   owner) FAX was in very rusty condition when sold for the first time in 1980.

After buying FAX Mr. McKay restored the car with a lot of metal parts due to massive rust issues and kept it till 2002.

During the period Mr. McKay owned FAX  he found out, that the original 3,5inch Cooper S wheels have been painted in Ivory Pale color instead of OEW, which was out of stock at BMC (fact was confirmed by BMC).

It seems that all the owners who did restoration work resprayed the wheels in this clearly more yellow color, because they actual still appear not OEW.

The optional fitted 4,5inch LP wheels are now resprayed old English white, matching to the roof.
